In celebration of World Sea Turtle Day, we honor the incredible recovery of Luna, a critically endangered Green Sea Turtle, thanks to the combined efforts of Ocean Wildlife Rescue, Marine Guardians, and local partners. Their collaborative dedication brought Luna back to health, marking a significant win for ocean conservation.
When Luna was discovered, she was severely malnourished, her shell burdened with a staggering 5kg of barnacles. The weight was an indication of deeper health issues, complicating her struggle for survival. John Davies and his team at Ocean Wildlife Rescue took immediate action, providing the essential care Luna desperately needed.

A crucial factor in Luna’s recovery was her specially crafted feeding plan. Recognizing her need for high-nutrient food, Marine Guardians and their partners stepped in to help. Luna was gradually introduced to a diet of fresh fish and peeled crustaceans. As with many sea turtles in recovery, the careful removal of shells from her meals was vital to avoid any digestive complications.
With contributions from local organizations, Luna’s caretakers could continue providing her with high-quality food without financial strain. This support played a pivotal role in her progress, ensuring she gained the weight necessary to thrive once more.
After months of dedicated care, Luna made a full recovery and was returned to the sea, weighing a healthy 55kg. Her release along the vibrant shores of Turtle Bay stands as a testament to the power of teamwork in preserving our ocean’s treasures.
